The pandemic has brought about massive changes, and vulnerable groups that cannot keep pace with the technological development are often marginalized. Therefore, I can still remember one day when I felt very sad about this circumstance.
If I had not experienced that incident, I wouldn’t have clearly remembered that unforgettable feeling. In an early spring morning, with an inconspicuous old man and a five-year-old girl walking behind me, I was walking to a retail shop to buy myself some snacks. Showing the health code was a normalized requirement to enter the shop during this special time, but when I was in the middle of going through the process, I heard a harsh reproach. “You cannot enter any store if you don’t have a health code”. Startled, I turned my head around quickly and saw an assistant standing disdainfully in the doorway. Just then, so embarrassed was the old man that he froze as if he was not able to speak and react at all. Almost thirty seconds afterwards, a weak trembling sound came from his mouth“Please let me in and just buy a bottle of water”. And the little girl gripped a seam of his coat, half-hinding behind him and watching timidly.
Although it is relatively easy for me to adapt to changes under the pandemic, those who are not sensitive about the techonoligical development may encounter many chanllenges. Certainly, the strict control over admittance is important, but those underprivilege people should not be marginalized. Only help can solve this dilemma.
Undoutedly, I should help them. When I delivered a bottle of water to the man, a flash of gratefulness sparkled in his eyes, “Thank you” he repeated. Until he twisted off the bottle and gave it to the young girl, a relieved grin appeared on his wrinkled face. Before leaving, the girl handed me an orange with a touch of her phydical temperature. The orange was so sweet, but when I saw the two slowly off into the distance, I did feel warmth upsurge in my heart. Hardly can I hold back my tears, but, helping those who are in need is worthwhile, isn't it?
All in all, timely help is full of glamour, gracefulness, and gratitude, and it is the helping hands that can create a spring-like warmth. Thus, we can defeat the relentless virus with love and unity.
